Quarry Bank Mill, Manchester, 9/03/2012: Immediately after arriving in Manchester, we took taxis to the Quarry Bank Mill, one of the oldest textile mills. Built in 1784, it utilized a water wheel to generate power for cotton spinning. Over time, additional water wheels and engines were added to increase the spinning (and later, weaving) capabilities of the mill. Nowadays, Quarry Bank Mill is a museum about the cotton industry in England and demonstrates the strong link between cotton and industrialization.
