Saint George’s Church, Sélestat, 4/02/2012:
Continuing the theme of warfare, we visited the Maginot line on Saturday. By this time, I had contracted an awful cold and could barely stay awake during the long presentation inside the cold, damp bunker-turned-museum, hence the lack of pictures.
Afterwards, we drove to the nearby town of Sélestat for lunch, which turned into a 2-hour, 3-course affair (quiche, main course of sausage, ham and sauerkraut, apple tart). To work off the gluttonous meal, we took a walk through downtown and visited two beautiful churches.
These photographs are from St. George’s Church, a gothic church founded in 1452. The first thing I noticed upon entering the church was the light; it flooded in through numerous stained-glass windows, twisting and gaining new colors at every pane.
