Roman Ruins, Badenweiler, 29/01/2012:

Before visiting the synagogue in Sulzburg, we explored the Roman ruins in Badenweiler.

The town, named “bad,” the German word for bath, after its hot springs, is the site of a former Roman bath house. It felt a bit silly to be discussing hot springs while it was snowing, but in ancient times, the water coming up from the springs was hot enough to head the entire building, not just the baths.

And, speaking of snow, Sunday was the first day of real winter that we have had in Germany. It started snowing as we got on the bus and continued to snow throughout the morning. Within an hour, everything was covered in a light layer of pure white snow, making the landscape look like Narnia.
