Freiburg, 23/01/2012:
I’ll be quick, since I only have one hour of wifi at the Novotel, but I arrived in Freiburg this morning. After a long buildup, my study abroad experience is starting. I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday in London and Dublin, but I am looking forward to having a home base again. I’m tired of living out of suitcases.
This morning, my parents and I took a taxi to Heathrow. I got off at Terminal 5 to board a flight for Basel. We said a hurried goodbye at the drop-off, but we had slowly been saying goodbye constantly over the last two weeks, so I felt ready to leave.
I met up with two other girls in my program at the airport. After a quick flight and a bus ride, we arrived in Freiburg.
Initial thoughts: The city is more modern than I was expecting. Everyone told me that the city is steeped in history, so I was anticipated lots of old buildings and churches. Yes, there are old buildings and churches, but there is also a great tram system and a Vodaphone store on every other block.
I haven’t spent much time exploring the city yet, but the rest of the program participants arrived tomorrow and then we will official move into our rooms. The next two weeks will be orientation in Freiburg, Basel and Strasbourg. I’ll share the journey (and the photos) along the way.
